- [Properties]

- Cesium is one of the Group-IA alkali metals. This group includes more
- familiar active metals such as lithium (Li), sodium (Na), and potassium
- (K). These have been called alkali metals because they react explosively
- with water to produce a caustic metal hydroxide, or alkali, compound.
- Few people have ever seen a blob of pure cesium metal. Those who have
- seen the solid form say it is a silvery white, soft, and ductile metal.
- It is easily melted at 28.4 degrees, so it often exists as a liquid that
- looks much like mercury. In fact, mercury is the only metal that has a
- melting point lower than cesium.
